Jmicron Jmb36x Raid Controller

I have a Rampage II Gene motherboard with the latest 1701 BIOS. I am running Windows 7 Professional. I am trying to connect an esata external drive to the JMicron 363 esata port. I have checked the bios and the JMicron controller is set to Enable, and I have selected the option IDE + AHCI mode (my problem is not resolved by selecting solely IDE which is the only other option).
Further, I do not have the JMicron controller listed in my Device Manager. Not under Storage Controllers, where I'd expect it or anywhere else. Also, if I Disable the JMicron controller in the BIOS I see no changes on the Devices listed in the Device Manager.
I have tried installing the drivers for the JMicron controller from both the Asus site and the JMicron site. I have tried several versions (the JMicron site offers two versions one appended with _esata - I have tried both variants neither work). In all instances when I try to install the driver the install is halted with the prompt 'no jmicron jmb36x scsi adapter found'
I'm stumped, so I'm turning to you for ideas...
Thanks,
Matt
